Joe Ligon Talks with Roy Gray of RoyGray.com and Charity Music Inc

Tupelo, MS (PRWEB) April 14, 2008 -- The singing group has been to The White House more than Monica Lewinski. Still packing concert venues around the world, "The Mighty Clouds of Joy" introduced a new sound to Gospel music in the 1960's when lead singer Joe Ligon, who was pressed by Peacock Records to make the song "Steal Away To Jesus" a little longer, adopted the preaching style of Aretha Franklin's dad (Reverend C.L. Franklin) and created a Clouds brand that the proverbial huddled masses have enjoyed for nearly five decades.

Popular weekend radio personality Roy Gray "Konnected" with Ligon, whose singing voice is described by Gray as, "a voice almost as beautiful as my wife Brenda's speaking voice," at the Clouds' 47th anniversary concert in Los Angeles.

"It's good to see you and it's good to be here," Ligon told Gray, adding, "This is home for the Clouds."

Gray, whose claim to fame is choosing dymanic roads less travelled, like his unique full-time pursuit of corporate (marketing) success when many broadcasting peers consider Gray one of America's finest radio personalities, reminded Ligon that one of the great things about the fame of The Mighty Clouds of Joy is the strong support from other famous disc jockeys around the world, like Ollie Collins Jr.

"I would like to say hello to Ollie, who has also been a friend of the Clouds for many, many years. We've worked with him and hope that God will continue to bless and keep him...And we know and believe that He will."

One great Clouds story that made headlines when the innovative quartet burst on the scene decades ago involves music critics in the United States, who said the group's crowd-drawing lead singer, Ligon, would not last very long in the recording business.

"That's right," said Ligon, his eyes lighting up, acknowledging that Gray's reputation for doing thorough pre-interview news gathering was in full effect. "When we started, they looked at me as a singer who sang too hard...And they said, well, (Ligon) won't last long.

"But I'm still here!" continued Ligon, "It's 47 years later and God is still blessing me! (God) has allowed me to keep the same voice that I had when I started, and I give Him all the praises and glory for that!"

Ligon recalled the glory-to-God life of the late Jewel Rowe, of "Jewel With Love" and Barry Manilow fame. "We do miss Jewel. Jewel was a wonderful person, and everybody loved her. I met her years ago in Phoenix, Arizona; and everybody I know--I've never heard anybody say anything bad about her. She will be missed."

Gray also had a recent conversation with singer Karen Marie, who revealed how husband Ronald Clark, bassist for the Clouds found a unique way to get to know the pretty singer.

"It was a great meeting," said Marie. "My dad, my brother and I sang together as a family group; and my husband, his dad and three brothers sang as a family group as well. And we all happened to be on the same concert one night. It's a really funny story. I was having problems with my keyboard and my husband, who was really just being flirtatious with me at the time, asked if I needed help, but, in a way he was really asking if I needed his phone number!"

Gray will soon debut a bound-to-be-a-hit Mothers' Day tune from Endurance entitled, "Thank You, Lord, For My Mother."

The group's gifted spokesperson Claude Cummings told Gray, "When we were recording this song, one of two young interns assisting the engineer, who himself had trouble fighting back the (mother-memory) sobs, shouted, with tears in his eyes, 'I'm going to go call my mother right now!'"

Gray is making plans to roll out a Spanish version of Roy's Koncert Konnection.
